What is value in ART? Feb.27th 2014

Value is imporatnt in art because it shows us the texture of that object. If nothing had value everything would be darkness. The shadows in the object define its quality. Value relates to texture because if there was no value then objects wouldn't have any texture. Texture is what defines that object by the values it gives off. The 5 different ways of drawing value are shading, scribble hatching, cross hatching, dotting, and shadowing. Building value means that we increase or decrease the amount of light that is projected off of the object. We best see value by squinting to see the change in lightness and darkness and to see the different textures.

Value- Art class Feb.26th 2014

In class today I learned about value. When you look at an object it has value. A 3-dimensional shape doesn't have lines it has value. The light reflects off the object creating value. Value is key. Everyone thinks that colour is so important but value is more important than colour. Value expresses lightness and darkness of the object that you are looking at. It's the shadows of the object that make that object contain value.Value is very important while doing art.

5 questions Feb.11th 2014

Grade 9 Questions: LINE 1. How does the author define "line"? Lines are every where we go. Lines are used to create words, numbers, and symbols. A line is an element of a language that is the path of a moving point through space. 2. What is required to make line? (This must be pretty important if it is so closely linked to line!!) A line needs width and length.A line is one dimensional in length. The width is much smaller than the length. 3. What is "dimension"??? Dimension is the amount of space an object takes up in one direction. A two-dimensional obeject has height as well as width. A painting would be considered a two-dimensional object. A three-dimensional object had height, width, and depth. A sculpture is considered to be a three-dimensional object. 4. List many ways that artists create line. A line can be created in many ways. A line can be created using a pencil and drawing it on a piece of paper or it can be created with scratching a stick into wet clay. 5. Define an "outline" and an "implied" line. An outline is a line that shows or creates the outer edges of a shape. An implied line is a series of points that the viewers eye's automatically connect with.
